RMKS/1. THIS NAVADMIN ANNOUNCES THE OFFICIAL MERGER
OF THE STOREKEEPER (SK) AND POSTAL CLERK (PC) RATINGS
INTO THE LOGISTICS SPECIALIST (LS) RATING AS OF
1 OCTOBER 2009. TODAY, MORE THAN 11,000 ACTIVE AND
RESERVE POSTAL CLERKS AND STOREKEEPERS ARE NOW
DESIGNATED LOGISTICS SPECIALISTS.
2. THE LOGISTICS SPECIALIST RATING BRINGS THE VALUABLE
WORK STOREKEEPERS AND POSTAL CLERKS PERFORM IN LINE WITH
THE LOGISTICS REQUIREMENTS NEEDED IN TODAY'S GLOBAL
LOGISTICS ENVIRONMENT.
3. AS AN ELEMENT OF THE NAVY'S TOTAL FORCE STRATEGY,
THIS MERGER WILL CAPITALIZE ON THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES FOUND IN THE TWO RATINGS AND APPLY THEM
TOWARD A UNIFIED MISSION. MERGING THE SK AND PC RATINGS
WILL IMPROVE EFFICIENCY AND SUPPORT OPTIMAL MANNING.
4. ONE OF THE OLDEST NAVY RATINGS, THE STOREKEEPER
RATING WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1916 TO PERFORM DUTIES OF
PURCHASING, SHIPPING, RECEIVING, AND ISSUING EQUIPMENT,
TOOLS, AND CONSUMABLE ITEMS THROUGH THE NAVY SUPPLY
SYSTEM. THE POSTAL CLERK RATING WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1944
TO OPERATE THE NAVY'S LARGE POSTAL SYSTEM. MERGING POSTAL
CLERKS AND STOREKEEPERS TOGETHER BRINGS NEARLY 100 YEARS
OF LOGISTICAL EXPERIENCE TO THE LOGISTICS SPECIALIST RATING.
5. THE 'CROSSED KEYS' OF THE STOREKEEPER RATING BADGE
WILL BE RETAINED FOR THE NEW LOGISTICS SPECIALIST RATING.
6. AN ADDITIONAL 2,500 RESERVE COMPONENT E1 TO E5
STOREKEEPERS AND POSTAL CLERKS WILL OFFICIALLY MERGE INTO
THE LOGISTICS SPECIALIST RATING ON 1 APRIL 2010.
